Volunteer Opportunities
SCHOOL BOARD MEETING :

One night after school I attended a School Board Meeting just to listen and observe. Throughout the entire meeting I found myself confused as to what they were talking about, but from what I did understand I picked out that the boards overall goal is to better the students in District 206. The role of the school board is to set and pass policy and procedure. The people on the board are elected by the taxpayers where the majority of school funding comes from. With that being said they are the eyes and ears of the community within the school district.

CONCESSIONS :

On Friday nights I often times found myself helping with concessions for the football games. The A Club presidents had asked me to help set up prior to the game, work during the game, and clean up after the game. My jobs while I was working varied from sweeping, hot chocolate duty, to making popcorn and putting it in boxes. Now that I volunteered my time for football games I often get called on Tuesday and Thursday nights to help with basketball and volleyball.

COURAGE RETREAT :

For two full days of school I volunteered at the Courage Retreat that was put on by a group called Youth Frontiers . This event was put on for the 7th Graders of District 206. While I was there I served as a small group leader, and a mentor for the students. Throughout the day we played games, told stories, and ate lunch. I shared my testimony to the the 7th grades about how I tried to fit in with the wrong crowd while I was in middle school. At the end of the day the 7th graders had the chance to share their act of courage to their peers. These two days were truly rewarding.
